THE FIRSTBORN AMOUNG MANY BRETHREN ….part 1 of 5
For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings. Hebrews 2:10
For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Romans 8:29
Christian men, women and children are being conformed to the image of Jesus Christ. Our Father is bringing many sons to glory. Jesus said,
Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these will he do. John 14:12
Jesus glorified our Father on the earth by finishing the work which He was given to do (John 17:4). PS note this was before the cross.
We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10.
As sons, we glorify our Father by finishing the work which we were created to walk in. For this to happen, for us to fulfil our purpose, Christ must be formed in us (Galatians 4:19).
We have been born again of incorruptible seed (I Peter 1:23).
But the seed must germinate, sprout, mature, and become fruitful. Christ must be formed in us. This is the great mystery so few discover: Christ in us is the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27).
Jesus Christ is not only our example. He completes us. He credits the Father with His works (John 14:11), and then promises us the same Helper, His very own presence within us by virtue of the Holy Spirit (vss. 16-18).
Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
II Corinthians 3:17-18
The more clearly we see Jesus, the more clearly we will see ourselves in Him. Our true identity, purpose and destiny emerge as we identify with Him, seeing ourselves in Him. We were created in Christ Jesus, and have no true identity, purpose or destiny apart from Him.
I hope that the following insights within the discussions ahead from Jesus’ earthly life will be helpful in your journey of faith.
